A Message from the President
Welcome to Fall . . . and reminders all around about why we do what we do.
On behalf of the WACAC Executive Board I am happy to inaugurate the first of bimonthly letters and articles meant to update our members on what is happening in our professional organization and within our professional world.
At the August Executive Board Retreat we welcomed new members and focused on our three themes for 2010-11: service, leadership and stewardship. Our work together generated new plans and new directions, and you will be seeing the beginning of the fruits of our labors very shortly.
In addition to our Membership Meeting on September 29th in St. Louis, we look forward to our Annual Spring Conference, planned under the leadership of our President-Elect Greg McCandless (Sage Hill School.) We are happy to announce that the 2011 Spring WACAC Conference will be held at Loyola Marymount University from Tuesday, May 24 to Thursday, May 26.
Watch for more updates on WACAC activities to serve our members -- we encourage your comments, your questions, and your involvement!

- Our new Board members include Assembly Delegates Anne Aubert-Santelli (USC), Jasmin Escobar Taylor (Bishop’s School), Mary Hesser (Christian Brothers High School), and Bob Patterson (Stanford) as well as Membership Chair Emmi Harward (Bishops School), Technology and Research Co-Chair David May (Chapman), College Fair Co-Chair Nichelle Hoover Passanisi (Dominican), and Government Relations Co-Chair for Nevada Kati Swanson (Truckee Meadows Community College High School)
- I have appointed two task forces to work on issues facing our members:
- Strategic Directions Task Force led by former WACAC President Jim Whitaker (Claremont Graduate U) with members Dan Nannini (Santa Monica College), former President Linda Zimring (LA Unified), Bob Patterson (Stanford), and Michael McKeon (Saint Mary’s College)
- Nevada Task Force led by former WACAC President Esther Hugo (LMU) with members David Webb (West Preparatory Academy), Kati Swanson (Truckee Meadows Community College High School), Jasmin Escobar Taylor (Bishops School), and Ed Schoenberg (Otis College of Art and Design)
- The WACAC Website will be migrated within the next three weeks to a better server and better construct that will allow more members better access (and easier access!) to information and registration processes.
- Our communication plan, beginning with semi-monthly articles from Board members, also includes a new presence and access to information through a new Google Group and Facebook accounts. In future members will be receiving initial emails about events, and then updated through our “GoogleFace” sites. Watch for information on how to join and become informed in less intrusive but hopefully more effective ways.
- The Board also approved an initial plan to have WACAC join forces with PNACAC and RMACAC (Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain) to put on a “Super Conference” in Reno in 2012. Watch for updates on this exciting plan to bring the West together!
In addition to our Membership Meeting on September 29th in St. Louis, we look forward to our Annual Spring Conference, planned under the leadership of our President-Elect Greg McCandless (Sage Hill School.)
